Default Switching e-mails

I'm getting quite sick of the 600+ messages I get every time I check my e-mail account that I use for GW, since most of them are pretty much crap and date back about a month. So, I pulled up an old and clean account of mine, and I was wondering if it was possible to change your e-mail for your account. I'm originally thinking you can't, since the account is supposed to be tied to the e-mail.

log into your guildwars account, click "edit account" and then select "change e-mail address" and click next and follow the stuff they ask...

While you cannot change the email address that is the NAME of the account, you can change the CONTACT email address. This allows an account owner to keep his contact info current, but avoids any ownership change.

Is that supposed to be part of the mailing address?

When I click "Edit Account", I get four options: Change Password, Change Mailing Address, Manage Access Keys, Change Territories.

So it doesn't look like the thing I'm trying to do is in the GW Client.

Darcy, you're wrong. As you can only change your e-mail address when you are signed into your account, any e-mail change is regarded as authoritative. Once you make the change, you are informed that you can either expedite the process by confirming from both accounts; otherwise, within seven days, your e-mail address is simply changed to the new account. The only way to cancel the process is to deny the change in the conformation e-mail that both accounts receive.

Shayne:

Step 1: Log into your account.
Step 2: Click "Edit Account." It should be in the lower left corner.
Step 3: Click "Change Email Address. It should be the first radio option.

If you don't have the change e-mail address option, then I would contact GW support.

I've been wondering about this for quite some time. I've wanted to change my email for ages, and finally got around to doing it, but the confirmation email only turned up in one of my inboxes so I couldn't do it... Most annoying.

So, now every time that I go into GW and try to change again I no longer have the option. So, it seems that they'll only let you do it once...even if it didn't work.

You can change email preferecnces for any acct *which is tied to your plaync acct*. You'll need to create a free plaync acct, then tie your acct to it by adding the key codes then you can edit email preferences for the acct(s). I have 2 accts for example and a 3rd email acct where all stuff gets routed.
Yes, this means those of you who've 'lost' your key codes will never be able to make acct changes, this is a good security feature, and I for one am happy about it.

there is a 7 day waiting period to use the new email if you cant click both emails.

if you clicked one of them and got sent to the confirmed change page on the one you got after the 7 day waiting period you should be able to use the new one.

i have changed several times with no problem as there is no limit on changes

Okay, so it took me a lot of bouncing around, but I finally think I figured out what happened.

I contacted support, and I got an automated e-mail that sent me a few pages where to go to get help for my problem. Looking through one, it said that I couldn't change my e-mail if I had already linked it with a PlayNC account. So, I thought that since I bought Nightfall through the online store, I must have already linked the two somehow, so that can't change.

So then I logged back into my PlayNC account and changed the e-mails. I suppose that's going to be enough to have my e-mails redirected to the new e-mail account, yes? That's all I really needed to accomplish.

correct - because you tied your GW account to a PlayNC account you won't ever be able to be able to change the "login" e-mail address.

However, you won't loose out on anything because you can edit the e-mail address that your PlayNC account points to, thus any official e-mails sent to you will go to that e-mail address and not the one you "login" to GW with.

What possible reason could there be to not let you change the login email just because you've linked it to plaync?

I want to delete the email I use for GW login, which is already a different email to the one I use for PlayNC, so it just wouldn't make sense for me to keep the old email as the login...

Loviatar said there's usually a 7 day waiting period, and even though I had Gw linked to my PlayNC account linked since the beginning I was able to change the email once but never got sent the verification email. It has been almost half a year, much more than 7 days, since then. Why would they give me the option once and then not again?

Pamelf - We can't answer that question. If you want to discuss with Anet/PlayNC why you can't change your e-mail login once your account is tied to a PlayNC masteraccount, please contact GW support and inquire there:

http://www.guildwars.com/support/

All I can say is what they told me - that for security issue's/reason's they disabled e-mail login changes on all accounts linked to a PlayNC masteraccount. They also stated that this won't prevent a player getting any important information from them, or support or such as they will be able to manage their PlayNC masteraccount and all correspondence and such will go to the e-mail the PlayNC Masteraccount points to, not the Guild Wars e-mail login.

Does that clear up anything? LOL

Basically..

- the only e-mail address that matters once a GW account is linked to a PlayNC masteraccount is the one the PlayNC account points to.

- Once linked, the e-mail address login is basically just a place/user-name holder that can't be changed.

If your account isn't linked, you should be able to change the e-mail login used.. and iirc they give it 5-7 days before the change over, just so there's enough time for a response from both the old and new e-mail address. I can't remember if it's 5 or 7 days.. I know it's one or the other.

As for why you were able to change the GW e-mail address when linked to a PlayNC account.. who knows, but they have changed it so that's no longer possible.
